Human beings are innately bond with the rest of the planet, and in particular with the other living beings, as suggests the Biophilia theory (from Greek, love for life). According to Edward O. Wilson, we are “biologically programmed in terms of genetics to seen kinship with the more.than.human world”. That is why on this bond depends our good physical and mental health. In fact, we like caring for plants and flowers, our pets, and we feel instinctively better while walking in a quiet park.

The field of nature-based therapies is getting more and more attention. Researchers are proving the benefits of spending more time outdoors, therapists are moving their sessions in the woods or on a seashore, gp’s are suggesting more and more activities in the open-air.

WHAT IS ECOTHERAPY
How much influence does our family have on us? And the community we grow up in? And our nation? Family, community, nation are like concentric circles around us, the core, and if we expand the view, we see the very planet we spend our life on. We evolved in a particular environment provided by our planet, we are in this form because of the peculiarity of planet Earth.
Moreover, our body is an open harbour: we share air, fluids, matter with an external world which we couldn’t live without.

Ecopsychology could be described as an enhanced Social Psychology: the latter studies the interactions between people and the social groups they belong to, while the former extends this interaction to the environment we live in, including plants and the other animals, climate, etc.

Ecotherapy seeks to raise awareness of a broader view of human reality: parts of a wide ecosystem which bases itself on the connections and the balance of its parts. Also our well-being is based on these connections and, thanks to ecotherapy, we can go with the flow of life.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ECOTHERAPY
Many studies and researches prove that working with and in nature has strong positive influence on our psychological and physical health, in fact it reduces:
depression – stress perception – recovery period – blood pressure – attention deficit disorder – obesity – dementia – eating disorders – substance abuse.

Besides, outdoors activities allow social body-mind interaction often impossible in the urban contexts, enriching our relational experience.
